Tips to Installing Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Peel and stick wallpapers are an excellent way to indulge in some DIY in your free time.

Instead of painting your wall murals from scratch, peel and stick wallpapers offer an easy way to decorate your home or office without much hassle. The wallpapers can be applied anywhere and in any decorative style.

Nevertheless, installing peel and stick wallpapers is not easy and will require you to adhere to some application rules to achieve the perfect outcome.

Follow these step-by-step tips to install your ideal wallpapers.

Get the Needed Tools Ready

Before starting your wallpaper installation, it is imperative to have all the necessary installation tools. The good thing about it, though, is that the tools are readily available and affordable.

You will need the following tools. Sponge, ladder, small stool, mild cleaner, measuring tape, pencil, utility knife, plastic smoothening tool, ruler, straightedge, and your chosen peel and stick wallpaper. Once you have them ready, then you are prepared to start your installation.

The tools will help you to do a clean job.

Thoroughly Prepare the Wall

Clean your wall’s surface with a recommended cleaner and smooth cloth. If your wall has so many stains, you can use a soapy solution before finishing up with the recommended cleaner. Once you are done, allow the wall to dry up, preferably for 24 hours complete.

If you apply your wallpaper before the wall surfaces properly dry up, it will start to peel off within a short time. Some wallpaper might not stick at all during the installation process if they are not water-resistant.

Measure Your Dimensions

As your walls are drying up, you can proceed to get the dimensions of the area you want to stick your wallpaper. With the correct dimensions, you will be able to cut the wallpaper appropriately with minimal errors.

Cut the wallpaper into strips and number them so as not to mix things. Measure the exact height and width of the pre-determined area. Once you are done with measuring and cutting, the following step is to install.

The best way to undertake the installation is to do it with other people to make the process easy, fast, and with fewer mistakes. Correctly cutting your wallpaper will ensure that you are left with meaningful leftover pieces to apply in other areas.

Apply Your Mural Wallpaper

Start by peeling off the adhesive on the wallpaper and align it with the wall lines you had drawn earlier. Work from top to bottom and apply the wallpaper, slowly peeling off the adhesive as you go down.

Use a smoothing tool as you apply to remove any air bubbles. Do not use force. Instead, let your hands move freely, flowing with the force of gravity. Once you get to the bottom of the wall, peel any excess parts using a utility knife or sharp razor blade.

Afterward, use a smoothening tool to remove air bubbles entirely before you move on to the next strip. Apply the strip based on your earlier numbering to ensure that the pattern is consistent. Repeat the application process until all wallpaper strips are applied.
