Studio Typeface has crafted a remarkable living space in Casa Fluida, located in Singapore. This project prioritizes fluidity, texture, and a seamless transition between distinct areas. Eschewing sharp lines and stark divisions, the design embraces a warm, inviting atmosphere achieved through a carefully curated palette of materials, bespoke lighting, and thoughtful spatial planning.
The journey begins in the foyer, where textured stucco envelops the walls from floor to ceiling, immediately establishing a sense of warmth and welcome. Full-height mirrored storage cabinet doors cleverly expand the perceived space, creating a sense of openness upon exiting the private lift.
The living and dining areas are the heart of Casa Fluida, showcasing the studio’s commitment to bespoke design. Two monumental pendants, specially commissioned from Sergey Maknos, command attention, drawing the eye upwards to the elevated ceiling. These unique fixtures become sculptural focal points, setting the tone for the entire space.
A key design element is the layering of curved features that begin at the balcony wall and gracefully wrap around the entire width of the room. This ingenious solution serves multiple purposes: concealing curtain pelmets and cove lighting, as well as housing the projector screen above the island area. The continuous stucco finish, mirroring that of the foyer, further enhances the sense of softness introduced by the curves. The layering of materials continues with linen curtains, providing a delicate contrast to the cooler, glossy grey finishes of the Roche Bobois dining table.
Studio Typeface prioritized indirect and ambient lighting over direct sources, opting for pendant and wall lights throughout. This strategic choice creates a consistently cozy and inviting ambiance. The full-length feature wall acts as a unifying element, seamlessly connecting the living area to the bedrooms, mitigating the typical sense of separation between these zones. This thoughtful approach fosters a sense of continuous flow throughout the residence.
The bathrooms underwent significant transformations, with retiling employed to align them with the overall design aesthetic. The master bathroom experienced the most dramatic change, with a reconfigured layout creating a more generous shower area. Removing the wall between the wardrobe and bath areas maximizes natural light. Large format tiles further enhance the sense of opulence.
In contrast to the lighter, softer tones of the living areas, the master bedroom embraces a darker, more masculine palette. Strong features, such as the stone-like wall feature above the framed bedhead, create a distinct character. While slightly colder in feel, the design language remains consistent, echoing the framing details seen in the dry kitchen. The continuation of the microcement flooring from the living areas into the master bedroom and wardrobe areas ensures visual continuity.
Casa Fluida is a testament to Typeface’s meticulous attention to detail and their ability to create spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally sophisticated. The project’s success lies in its harmonious blend of textures, bespoke lighting, and the fluid connection between spaces, resulting in a truly captivating and inviting home.
