LOT Self-Balancing Lamp by Fools Gold

LOT Self-Balancing Lamp by Fools Gold

Michelle Mantel

Germany-based interdisciplinary studio Fools Gold — run by Hauke Unterburg and Julian Wallis — has unveiled its self-balancing lamp LOT  on the occasion of this year’s Milan Design. The lamp stands on the wall without any additional fixation and looks as if it will fall over at any moment. However, a counterweight at the bottom stabilises the lamp and ensures that it always swings towards the room with the direction of sight. This kinetic interplay and its minimalistic appearance give LOT a lightness that approaches that of light itself.
