ELMNT Opens new Spin Studio in Montreal designed by Ivy Studio

Alex Lesage

ELMNT has opened its new spin studio designed by Ivy Studio on the ground floor of a large residential development in the heart of Montreal‘s Griffintown neighborhood. The newly constructed 1500 square foot space was divided into two equal parts: the lobby and the spin room. Although both areas are united by the brand’s all-black color palette, they each suggest opposing ambiances.

The lobby, an open space containing the service counter, lockers, and changing room projects a calming atmosphere for clients to rest after their intense workout. At the entrance, a long wooden bench and hidden wardrobe serve as a transition space between the people arriving and those leaving.

In the center of the space, a cylindrical watering fountain acts as an anchor that people gravitate around between classes. For privacy, the gender-neutral showers and changing room are recessed behind the long curved wall. The furniture and cabinetry are all comprised of black stained oak or reflective laminate, playing with textures and light in the otherwise dark room. The concrete floor and columns are left bare, revealing the structural bones of the building.

In contrast, the spin room is designed to evoke excitement and energy. A series of color-changing LED lights span across the ceiling from one end to the other. The walls are surfaced in acrylic mirrors that distort the reflections of their subjects.
