In the heart of bustling Milan, a 130-square-meter apartment has been completely transformed by creative practice Lascia la Scia into a haven for family life. This stunning space seamlessly combines aesthetics with practicality, thanks to the clever use of custom-made furniture solutions and a color palette inspired by the serene beauty of Nordic nature.
The original layout of the apartment was fragmented and closed off, lacking a second bedroom and with the kitchen separated from the rest of the space. However, through a thoughtful renovation, the aim was to create a more spacious and inviting living room, introduce a second bedroom, and even incorporate a study or guest room.
To optimize the available space and create a seamless flow, walk-in closets and built-in closets were seamlessly integrated. The designers also paid special attention to maximizing natural light, strategically placing furniture to make the most of the sunlight in the areas that are most frequently used during the day. By combining natural materials with different color tones, each room was given a unique and captivating atmosphere.
The focal point of this project was the use of multifunctional furniture blocks, particularly in creating a furniture core that efficiently divides the living area from the sleeping area. The entire living area was conceived as a spacious open space, with continuous furniture that seamlessly extends from the entrance, elegantly wrapping around the door that leads to the sleeping area.
The choice of one-piece furniture, in a soothing shade like sage green, was crucial in creating an organized, functional, and distinctive atmosphere in the room. This not only ensured a consistent aesthetic throughout the space but also allowed for a harmonious and cohesive design. By using a single color for each element of the custom furniture, an environment with impeccable visual cohesion was achieved, adding personality and style to the entire space.
The finishes were carefully selected to create inviting and unique spaces that harmonize with nature not only visually but also through touch, providing a distinctive multisensory experience. Upon entering, guests are greeted by the delicate texture of Fornasetti’s “Nuvolette,” extending into the living area. The cozy ambiance of Italian herringbone oak parquet flooring spreads throughout the apartment, except for the bathrooms, fostering a welcoming environment.
In the living room and open kitchen, natural finishes offer a diverse tactile experience, from the wooden wall units to the authentic Ceppo di Grè stone island top, enriching the space with various materials and colors. The sage green multifunction block adds a natural and organized touch to the room, while attention is drawn to the natural light and balcony, where a small indoor garden brings a touch of green indoors. This multisensory approach infuses every corner of the house, creating a harmonious and embracing atmosphere. The same approach is carried out in the other rooms of the house.
The lighting system was meticulously designed to accommodate different activities within the home environment. For the living area, technical lights were selected to enhance focus in work areas, while Achille Castiglioni’s iconic Frisbi design decorative lights were chosen to add a touch of style and personality. Above the TV, mood lighting was created using Davide Groppi’s elegant infinity design, contributing a warm and inviting atmosphere to the living space.
The utilization of color is a crucial element in the identification and delineation of various spaces within a household. Each area is characterized by a specific color tone, meticulously chosen to mirror the personality and requirements of the occupants, while also maintaining a visual harmony through a common theme that connects color with the natural elements like stone and wood. For instance, the entrance is highlighted by a unique color that serves as a link between the indoor and outdoor areas, welcoming and preparing visitors as they step into the residence.
The presence of a green central spine in the versatile corridor block not only defines the transitional space but also establishes a chromatic continuity that extends to the sleeping quarters, where the color seamlessly blends with the diverse texture of Terrazzo resin marble, adding a touch of elegance to the guest bathroom.
The main bedroom is designed as a suite, a private sanctuary dedicated to relaxation and privacy. Providing ample space, it features a spacious walk-in closet integrated into the woodwork and an en-suite bathroom complete with a tub and shower for moments of pure tranquility. The room’s design is characterized by the sophisticated cannulated texture of the paneling, creating a captivating tactile and visual pattern that exudes timeless sophistication.
A striking contrast is achieved through the prevalence of blue, with lively brick accents infusing warmth and energy into the space. This harmonious blend of complementary colors, featuring various vibrant hues, imparts a welcoming and refined ambiance to the room. In the en-suite bathroom, the rhythm of the gunmetal complements the beauty of Ceppo di Grè stone, both on the floor and vertically surrounding the freestanding tub. To enhance the atmosphere, the room is illuminated by soft ambient lighting in the center and stylish decorative directional lights above the bedside tables, introducing a touch of sophistication and practicality with Aim lamps from Flos.
