Nendo designs limited edition chocolate sets for Maison & Object 2015

AKIHIRO YOSHIDA

On the occasion of the upcoming Maison & Object 2015, Nendo has created a limited edition of chocolate sets, called “chocolatexture“, designed in time for the awarding ceremony of “Designer of the Year Maison & Object 2015”.

The chocolate sets will be on sale for a limited time at the chocolatexture lounge, a place to experience and enjoy Nendo through the five senses. The lounge area is surrounded by a forest of 2,000 8mm-thick aluminum pipes, each of which is carefully painted at the appropriate height in chocolate-coloured gradations, creating the feeling of one being surrounded by “a rippling large molten chocolate wave”.

“Cocoa’s country of origin, kind, percentage content, technique of the chocolatier’s, the flavours inside; there are many factors that determine a chocolate’s taste.” explain designers. In coming up with a new chocolate concept, we turned out attention not to such factors, but to the chocolate’s shape.”

The 9 different types of chocolate are made within the same size, 26x26x26mm, featuring pointed tips, hollow interiors, smooth or rough surface textures– and, while the raw materials are identical, the distinctive textures create different tastes.
