Australian designer Tom Fereday has teamed up with Tasmanian audio brand Pitt & Giblin to introduce the Cast speaker, which is predominantly encased in marine-grade aluminium. Fereday emphasizes that the Cast stands out in the crowded audio market due to its minimalist material selection.
The speaker’s design is almost entirely enveloped in marine-grade aluminium, with the exception of the control panel located on the back. This choice of material not only enhances the acoustic properties but also ensures durability, as it is less prone to oxidation and degradation compared to lower-grade alternatives. Fereday believes this results in a product that will age gracefully over time.
The front of the Cast speaker boasts a seamless and cohesive look, interrupted only by a small opening at the center of the waveguide. “The circular waveguide is both the acoustic and visual center of the piece,” says Fereday. “The shape is highly refined and promotes consistent coverage across the room due to its design, resulting in a smooth and non-fatiguing sound.” He further elaborated that the waveguide’s form serves a functional purpose, with its geometry influencing the overall design of the speaker.
With its gently curving cone and rounded triangular base, the Cast speaker creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow, showcasing aluminium’s versatility in being molded into intricate shapes. Standing at an impressive height of 87 centimeters, the speaker transcends mere functionality, emerging as a sculptural object that commands attention in any space.
At the back of the speaker, a control panel is cleverly concealed, maintaining the sleek aesthetic of the design. Meanwhile, the cubic head is home to a powerful 10-inch subwoofer, ensuring that this stylish piece doesn’t compromise on functionality.
