1. Low Refrigerant
So, you have an air conditioning problem. You may have noticed that the system is not cooling as effectively as it used to, that it seems to be blowing warm air, or maybe you just started to hear a loud noise. If so, the refrigerant may be leaking out of the system. Refrigerant leaks are common when it comes to AC units, a result of vibrations and wear and tear over time. Once the refrigerant has leaked out, however, it needs to be replaced before your AC unit will begin working again.
2. Frozen Evaporator Coils
The evaporator coil is responsible for absorbing the heat from the air. When it is cold outside, warm air needs to be circulated near the coils to make them work properly. If there is any break in the airflow or a layer of ice has been built up around the coils, you may not get adequate cooling from your air conditioning system and will need to call a professional.
3. Dirty Condenser Coils
One of the most common causes of air conditioner problems is a dirty condenser coil outdoors. The condenser coil is responsible for removing the heat from inside of a building and expelling it outside, so when it gets covered with a layer of dirt and grime its ability to transfer heat is impeded. This leads to increased strain on the parts and also leads to early system failure.
4. Fan Problems
What causes air conditioner problems? There is a fan that blows indoor air over your unit’s evaporator coil to cool the air, and another that blows air over the outdoor unit’s condenser to expel the absorbed heat outside the building. If either of those fans isn’t working properly– due to a faulty motor, lack of lubrication, worn belts or too much dirt and debris– you end up with poor airflow and air conditioner problems. If you neglect the problem, it can lead to problems with the fan.
5. Leaking Ducts
Ductwork is an important feature of most HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems. The ductwork that runs through your walls and ceilings carries the cooled air from the air conditioner throughout your space. However, if there are holes or breaks in the ducts (which can be caused by rodents or careless workers) that expensive cooled air winds up inside your walls where it’s not doing anybody any good. And, of course, this scenario causes your air conditioner to work harder and drive up your energy bills.
6. Thermostat Problemas
You may also be having air conditioner troubles if it’s not running as long or as much as you think it should. Many homeowners end up with a confused thermostat after having their heating and cooling systems installed. This is largely due to improper programming of the system. If your air conditioner is turning on and off at an odd time, the problem could be with how the system is programmed. If you are still having troubles with your AC system even after changing the thermostats, contact your local service provider, or if you live in Israel our number is 1-700-500-670
7. Clogged Drains
You might not see signs of a problem right away, but think about the last time you had an air conditioner problem. How did the problem start? Was there a flooded room or moldy ceiling? And how did it end up solving itself? The moisture that your air conditioner removes from the air has to go somewhere. It’s supposed to be drained through a drain line, into a pan and finally down a drain in order to prevent water damage.
