Apple has long been known for its cutting-edge technology and innovative features in its devices. Now, the tech giant is taking things to the next level with the introduction of Apple Intelligence, a new artificial intelligence engine that promises to revolutionize the way we interact with our iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
So, what exactly can Apple Intelligence bring to our Apple devices? Let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting new features that this technology has to offer.
Apple Intelligence introduces innovative Writing Tools in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Users can now enhance their writing and communication skills with features like Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarise. These tools are available across various apps like Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party applications. Whether it’s refining class notes, perfecting a blog post, or crafting an email, Writing Tools boost user confidence. Rewrite offers different versions of text to adjust the tone for different audiences. Proofread checks grammar, word choice, and structure, providing suggestions and explanations for edits. Summarise condenses selected text into a digestible format. In Mail, Priority Messages highlight urgent emails, while summaries make it easier to scan through messages. Smart Reply suggests quick responses and identifies questions for thorough replies.
Understanding language also applies to Notifications. Priority Notifications show what’s most important at the top, while summaries help users quickly see key details on the Lock Screen, like in a busy group chat. Reduce Interruptions is a new Focus that only shows notifications needing immediate attention, such as a text about an early pickup from daycare.
In Notes and Phone apps, users can now record, transcribe, and summarize audio. Participants are notified when a recording starts during a call, and Apple Intelligence generates a summary after the call ends.
Apple Intelligence enables new image creation features for users to communicate in different ways. Image Playground lets users make fun images in seconds with styles like Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. It’s easy to use in apps like Messages and has a dedicated app for experimenting with concepts and styles. Users can create as many images as they want on their device.
In Image Playground, users can choose concepts from categories like themes, costumes, and places; describe an image; add someone from their photo library; and select a style.
In Messages, Image Playground lets users create images for friends and suggests concepts based on their conversations. For instance, if users are planning a hike, they’ll get relevant suggestions to make image creation quicker and more personalized.
In Notes, users can access Image Playground through the new Image Wand in the Apple Pencil tool palette, enhancing notes visually. Rough sketches can be transformed into charming images, and users can select empty space to create an image using context from the surrounding area. Image Playground is also supported in apps like Keynote, Freeform, and Pages, as well as in third-party apps that utilize the new Image Playground API.
Users can now create unique Genmoji to express themselves in a whole new way. By describing it, their Genmoji will appear, along with additional options. Users can even make Genmoji of friends and family based on their photos. Just like emoji, Genmoji can be added to messages, or shared as a sticker or reaction in a Tapback.
Searching for photos and videos is made easier with Apple Intelligence. Users can use natural language to search for specific photos or moments in videos. The new Clean Up tool can identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo without affecting the subject. With Memories, users can create personalized stories by typing a description. Apple Intelligence will select the best photos and videos based on the description, create a storyline with chapters based on themes from the photos, and arrange them into a movie with its own narrative arc. Users will also receive song suggestions from Apple Music to match their memory.
Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, is now more deeply integrated into the system experience. It has enhanced language-understanding capabilities, making it more natural, contextually relevant, and personal. Siri can simplify and speed up everyday tasks, even if users stumble over their words or make multiple requests. Users can also choose to type or use voice commands to communicate with Siri. Siri’s new design features an elegant glowing light that surrounds the screen when it is active.
Now, Siri can provide device support wherever users go and answer a wide range of questions about using iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Users can learn how to schedule emails in the Mail app or switch between Light and Dark Mode. With onscreen awareness, Siri can understand and take action with users’ content in more apps over time. For example, if a friend sends a new address in a text message, the receiver can simply say, “Add this address to his contact card.”
Apple is integrating ChatGPT into its system to make it convenient for users to access its knowledge and understand images and documents. Siri can rely on ChatGPT’s expertise whenever necessary, and users are asked for permission before sending any queries to ChatGPT. Apple’s Writing Tools will also include ChatGPT, enabling users to generate content on different subjects. Moreover, users can utilize ChatGPT’s image tools via Compose to create images that align with their writing style.
